I never had as many opportunities to play Dungeons & Dragons as I’d wanted, though the game always fascinated me. The culture that arose around it and all the other RPGs since… It’s imposable to measure the influence Dungeons & Dragons had on the world of roll playing games, because it is the definitive pen and paper RPG. Even modern computer and console RPGs (like KOTOR) owe almost everything to D&D.
I can’t say I knew much about Gary Gygax. The origins of D&D didn’t interest me as much as the material and culture derived from it. However, when looking at all that has come as a result of this man’s work, one can’t help morning his death.
This is a sad event in geek history.
