In the Alex Craft series by Kalayna Price, the main character is described as a “Grave Witch”. Personally, I’d have described her as an Ectomancer (as opposed to a necromancer, which she certainly is not), but the end result is the same. She summons ghosts, and does a bunch of other stuff dealing with bridging the normal world with the spiritual. It’s an interesting branch of the magical world, if you can overlook the morbidity of it.
There are love triangles, and if I remember correctly, there was a bad love scene in the first book I fast forwarded through (sex scenes just don’t work as well in audiobook form)… But generally, the books are entertaining. The first book was okay, but the second book really made me appreciate the potential for this series going forward.
Much like Harry Dresden, Alex Craft continues to improve her abilities with each book, and her friends and acquaintances become more interesting as the series goes along as well. At least, that’s what I hope will continue as the series goes on. There have only been two books so far, but I hope there will be many more.
